This laboratory examines changes that occur when a certain substance is administered to a living systems (cells, tissues, animals, or humans). The changes occur depending on many factors either external (dose, route and time of administration, and pharmaceutical dosage form) or internal factors (age, pH, diseases, and gastric emptying time). Those factors will affect the general effect produced by the drug consumed. It is directly related to plasma concentration of the drug. To assess thos concentration, then data of pharmacokinetics parameters must be established first. These data include half-life, distribution volume, Area Under Curve (AUC), elimination rate, etc.
Based on those data, then we can make modifications to the doses given and to direction how to use the drug. These steps are performed to produce a good therapeutic regimen so that the patient gets the best therapy and safe.
